Moi dix Mois 20e Anniversaire ~Dis Inferno XIX~Last Year Party~ Shibuya Stream Hall 18.12.22

After only having an online Q&A and short show for a "Last Year Party" in 2021, this year, the long awaited ~Dis Inferno~ returned for the 19th edition at Shibuya Stream hall.

It was a pretty cold day in Tokyo, so we were glad to be let in the building a little before opening time. I had forgotten my "pen light" of the Moi dix mois logo at home, so when I saw the goods table was open before the show I decided to get another one... Which turns out, we didn't use during the show (lol). I guess that's "shoganai", as they say.

The venue is kinda big ? But I don't think the show was sold out, the venue felt slightly empty... The stage is very big and we could see members well, which was great. They had mostly black outfits, Ryux had some "dango" hair with his belt headband, Hayato had a Moitie shirt with wide pants and his little cute ponytail, Sugiya had long boots with a nice black shirt, Seth had the classic Ritual print gilet with arm warmers and Mana was wearing the long chiffon shirring sleeve OP(?) with the Moitie harness, his makeup was mostly black and his lips kind of silver/gunmetal ? It was really pretty.

They came in with Destruction xxxx, everyone was already calling their names since it had been announced we could scream this time. Then straight into the first song, Deus Ex Machina ! Everyone had such energy ! Hayato always goes super in for that song and stands up playing it's super fun ! Right after this song followed Unmoved, which is another high energy piece that really got us going. I'm not sure about everyone but my front "kamite*" people really went good with head banging and we had a blast !

(In lives, the audience places are usually referred to as "kamite" or "shimote", so if you have a ticket/a place on your right of the room you are "kamite" (in the case of Moi dix mois, Mana's side) and if you are on your left you are "shimote" (Ryu/Sugiya's side))

Right before the show that morning, Ryux had his usual Twitcast livestream from home, where he talked just a little bit about the show, and how his used his voice as "chorus" for practice so of course, I know he does some screaming in back-vocal but with that said, I had suspicions we would get Deflower, which we got next ! With Ryux's voice doing the chorus with Seth (the intertwining sentences) it's super beautiful and really adds something rather than having a backtrack play what Seth can't say "at the same time". I love this song especially with Ryux's voice. Then, they followed with Solitude, which woke me up from my teary eyes and we danced with Mana adorably swinging his guitar back and forth adorably as usual during the chorus.

The next song, The Prophet, is always powerful and Seth really belts it out like a pro. My memory is super bad so I don't feel like we had heard it in a while, but I might be wrong haha. To finish the first part of the show, they followed with Ghost Whisper, which so far has not missed a single chance of making me break down in tears. The beginning is so goddamn haunting, it really grabs me. A kind fan heard me sniffle and try to wipe my tears and handed me a tissue, which was so kind of her ! I laughed in embarrassment and thanked her as the MC started.

First, Seth welcomed everyone, and talked a bit about the last shows they had. He asked the fans if we were having fun to which everyone screamed with enthusiasm ! He looked at Mana and told the audience that Mana wanted to hear our Osaka-ben call one more time (in Osaka, Mana had us answer Seth's question in Osaka dialect fashion "bocchi-bocchi denna~~") so we all did our best to call that in response. We thankfully got a thumbs up from a satisfied Mana that suggested we do a Tokyo version too, since we were in Shibuya. It was a little complicated so I don't remember the call well (sorry!) but at the end we had to hold our hand at our chin and send it to the sky (kinda ?) and that made Mana giggle a bit haha. (It was his request ! lol) After we successfully did the call to Mana's liking, Seth offered that all members give a word or a message, since it's the End of Year Party.

Ryux started. He explained two things. First, on a recent livestream after the first day of the Osaka live, he explained that when him and Mana went to ask if screaming/calling would be ok in Osaka at the venue and got the OK, Mana suddenly seemed satisfied and said "in a low tone低いトーンで" (as Ryux said) "omoshiroku narisou da na~面白くなりそうだな" (look like it'll get interesting eh) On stream, he quickly corrected himself that made a funny low voice by saying "lol maybe not like that but....!!" And that joke stayed, as Mana started using the sentence in tweets, writing in parenthesis "low tone" after. So then, Seth asked Ryux to re-do the impression, which Ryux gladly did in a very exaggerated almost growling deep voice, which made Mana laugh and turn around to hide his smile. Everyone was laughing at the idea of Mana speaking like that. Then Seth asked other members to also give their "low voice cool tone" idea of that sentence, to which they all obliged, Sugiya starting with a very nonchalant low "omoshiroku nari sou~ da na ;) " (lol), then Hayato was asked but he struggled to find a way to interpret it, but ended up saying "pass !!" and saved himself the embarrassment lol he was so cute. Finally Seth also did the impression in a kind of seductive low tone ? It was funny.

Second, Ryux had to explain and give more details about a suspicious story he had mentioned on his Twitter without giving details. On his Twitter, Ryux had  mentioned that in the car coming back from Osaka all together, Mana was sitting passenger seat beside him driving and that Mana "imitated a dog" which received a deluge of comments wondering what the hell that meant or people wanting to see it and get more details about this story. It seems that Mana was talking about a visit to Dallas for a convention a few years ago, and had to go through security at the airport (I did not fully understand the very details of the situation but you'll see) So from what I understood, Mana was going through security(?) and some dogs were not too far (I'm unsure if they were search-dogs or some people's pets or some service dogs but from the situation, they might have been security dogs) and Mana doesn't like dogs/is uncomfortable around them so he said the dogs approached him and started kinda poking at him and panting at him, which is when Mana started making dog paws with his hands fakingly clawing at Ryux and panting like a dog loudly which Ryux imitated, which made Mana laugh a lot once again, a well as the audience seeing Mana turn around again to hide his giggles. Ryux said that it was even funnier because he had his eyes on the road, so he could only see Mana on his peripheral vision and it really seemed like a funny situation. Seth explained that when that happened, he was sleeping in the car so he had only heard about that story but wish he could have seen it. Ryux then said this was around Gotemba (? or was it Ebina?) on the highway (about an hour out of Tokyo) and that he laughed for a long while after that almost all the way to Tokyo. They really seemed to have fun all together on their road trip to Hiroshima and Osaka, and it's really heart warming to hear the funny stories of them hanging out <3

After Ryux's funny stories and Mana's giggles, Seth invited Sugiya to say something. It's rare for him to talk much so I was glad he came to Ryux's mic to chat ! He usually only says something short and goes back to his place but this time he said he wanted to have a call-and-response with the audience, so we were all excited ! Ok so, you have to forgive me, but please do not twist how this will translate because it does NOT translate well but stay with me... Usually we refer to the feelings of the show/after show blues with "shikkoku shoujou漆黒症状" (Jet-black symptoms), or "turning jet-black/full darkness" at the show etc. So Sugiya wanted to ask us "Are you feeling jet-black ?" (Shikkoku shitemasu ka?漆黒してますか?) and asked us to answer with "Yes, fully black/dark !" (Hai, makkuro desu!はい、真っ黒です!) So he said it once, and we all said it without being in sync, so Seth said we should do it again with a countdown. Sugiya tried to ask once again, but chewed his words and messed up asking, so Seth started laughing and everyone too. So he asked again successfully this time, and everyone said loudly "Hai ! Makkuro Desu !!" it was so fun ! I'm glad he decided to do this. To see the video of this, you can check Ryux's instagram ! (@ ryusuke_kawamoto)

Next was Hayato, and he said kind words, and explained that he's super happy to finally hear us, even if because he's behind his drum set with earphones in, sometimes he can't really hear us, but he seemed thankful and he was cute ; w ; <3

Then Seth also said a short message, how about the 20th anniversary is really something special and that even though they have been through a lot, now they are happy to see lives coming back to more normality and having us being able to speak is also part of how they like shows etc, so it was a very nice message. Mana of course, did not speak to leave a message but they had an announcement from him.

It seems that 4 bands, Moi dix mois, D, Versailles and Matenrou Opera (!!!) are going to have a joint event/collaboration starting in January, called Japanese Visual Metal. From the details on the flyer we got, it seems like it's produced by Kamijo in collaboration with a jewelry brand (Eterno Recit), so me and friends think that maybe some goods/jewelry might be in the works, with some related events like "buy this jewelry and come to the in store event" etc... Not much details were talked about but you can see more details and a more in depth announcement on January 1st on the "event" Twitter at @JVM_info or on the website at Japanese Visual Metal.

Once all that talk and info was over, they picked up the show. For winter, Seth announced Lueur Blanche. That's another one that pulls tears from me every time so at some point I'll have to get thicker skin and stop crying but at the same time, why would I do that haha. Then Mana put up his light on his guitar, and started slowly scraping the strings with his pick, to signal the start of Perish. It was so lovely, the "new"(Seth) version of Perish is so good and Mana always twirls and turns with his guitar and makes everyone wave their hands in sync. Perish was followed by Immortal Madness. During this song, we usually alway have some call to make, the usual being Dix Love ! but mostly changed to fit the venue, the show or Mana's mood (lol). This time, Mana went to grab a bottle of Jack Daniels he had on his setup behind him, and came to the front with it, Seth asking if they were going to drink. Passing the bottle to Seth, Mana pointed his finger at him. "YOU drink it :)" hahaha. Seth executed orders and grimaced a little bit after chugging a generous sip of Jack Daniels. He gave the bottle back to Mana and told us the instructions. He explained why the call was as it was but I forget what he said. We had to circle our hand faking to hold a bottle and then take a pose with our hand in the air ╰( ^o^) saying "Otoko damatte Black Label !男黙ってブラックラベル" (Jack Daniels Black label). We did it once, and then Seth said "it's missing some hips". Everyone laughed, and Mana popped his hip on the side, Seth saying the girls should do it and go wild almost sexily and the boys should also go for it, which triggered a good call from all the men in the audience haha. Then we did it a couple times, raising our "bottles" and whipping our hips to the side, Mana mimicking us on stage, and finished strong with the song.

They went straight in with Dead Scape, a wild banger ! The whiplash came strong when Seth announced Twilight Flower. In my tears again, I looked at Seth passionately gesture lyrics of the song and sing beautifully. The net song, the birth of Moi dix mois, Dialogue Symphonie, was somehow so energetic this time ?! Everyone was so into it ! The kamite gang really had good vibes this time I was so glad to be with the people there ! The next song was Ange~D-Side Holy Wings, which is probably one of the reasons of my neck still being so sore with all the head banging ! Mana was also so into it this time he head banged a lot and looked like he had a lot of fun. It's with much surprise that when Seth said the name of the last song, I almost did not understand because it seemed unbelievable, it was S-CONSCIOUS ! I will not say Seth did the best job at this song but...... :) We all screeched "Cut it out !!!"in answer to Seth and it was so cool. Mana's pose, the flashing lights, everything was perfect !

Then it was time for (temporary) goodbyes. They all left, we all called their names and waved bye. Without missing a beat we clapped our hands and called them back "Moi dix mois ! Moi dix mois!" We knew Mana would be coming back on drums, so I think everyone was excited.

After a couple short minutes, just enough for the members to change in their Moi dix mois t-shirts, lights turned off. And then Angel of Death by SLAYER started to play ! Mana loves Slayer so it wasn't a surprise but I was glad he chose this song ! It really made their entrance cool haha. They all came back, and Mana arrived with drumsticks he held up high to us in a cross shape ! He quickly went behind the drum set since he had to put in his earphones, take off his boots and get ready. Seth presented everyone, Mana on drums, Ryux on bass, and Sugiya on guitar with Hayato ! For this song, I thought they might do a cover, I know Mana had in the past, but they played Beast Side ! Hayato was on my side so I saw him well, he came cllose to us and was super good ! He also looked back at Mana a little too with a proud mom look hahahah. Hayato has said in the past how impressive it is for Mana to just come and use someone else's drumset/set up since usually drummers all have their own set-up/where they place stuff for how they play, but Mana did good ! After the song, Mana quickly put his boots back on (lol), Hayato threw his pick, which I missed out *cries* and they all went back to their own instruments for the last song. Seth cheerfully announced Forbidden and asked that we just go super wild, call their names and have fun, and then they brought about 4 HUGE balloons that bounced around on the crowd and then at the members that would throw them back... Staff then made them explode and they had smaller balloons inside that people started punching/grabbing and waving around, creaming MY DIX !!! YOUR DIX !!! it was so fun haha. At the end, they waved goodbye again, Seth stayed for a while waving to everyone. Mana went on the left, then the right, then the middle to make sure he'd bow and wave to everyone, we all clapped and called for him ! And then he came down from the stage (there was about 1m in between the 1st row railing and the stage) and he walked the whole width of the audience waving bye bye to us closely.

I was a little upset at myself for not jumping to get the Hayato pick, as I saw it fall on someone that did not seem to react and no one dropped to the floor to try and grab it immediately, so I almost tried to slither back behind the person just behind me but then gave out as I did not want to disturb anyone. The one person who has the Hayato pick..... *shakes fist* You have the rarest item and I am jealous ! lol. Although earlier during the night I did get to catch one of Mana's pick, a black one (I think he also had blue ones as I saw one fall earlier). He was pretty generous throwing picks too, sometimes having to run back to his picks to grab a new one to keep songs going. It was such a high energy show, I was glad to have chosen a wig/hair set that allowed me to break my neck head banging without losing it (lol). Of course, having a good ticket made the whole experience even greater, but it really seemed like a lovely night for most.

Except for the possible event with Japan Visual Metal collaboration, the next Moi dix mois show will be Mana's birthday on March 18-19 for a 2 day weekend in Shibuya ! I hope we get many more chances to be there and encourage Moi dix mois in 2023. Dix love !
