SHOXX vol. 67 - September 1998 - MALICE MIZER "The Girl's Collection" Interview

In this interview, all 5 of the members appeared in a several page spread in which they were all dressed as historical women figures. I am posting the members' interview in the order they appeared in the magazine.

Content Warning : Sex.

The subject of sex is addressed. Nothing graphic at all but there are discussions about it. (Question 5, and sometimes mentioned in Question 4 as well)

Note :

This interview has a question about the member's opinion on same-sex couples/love. Some of the members talked about their own feelings and or alluded to gender concepts. Please DO NOT assume anyone's gender identity or sexual orientation from this. It might be out of context, lost in translation, and also is not your business. Do NOT go around assuming any of the member's pronouns/gender identity/sexual orientation. This is also over 20 years old and might have changed since then (or not, but again, not anyone's business). You are free to think what you want about their answers but be respectful if you ever address this topic about them/this interview in public/on social media.

Question 1 ----

A Crime? Hmm… This is a really dangerous question. If I answered honestly, I may not be able to continue to sit here (laughs). Well, if you insist… it is living, having been born. I don’t think that there is happiness in giving birth to and raising children in this day and age. People raised in this kind of environment, some will become very insensitive and some very sensitive. They will become criminals after the slightest mistake. For me, if I had taken one step in a wrong direction I might have become a terrorist. Like this, I think the very act of being born, the act of living, is a crime. I myself don’t think I want to pass on my genes. It’s because I don’t care about blood relations at all when it comes to relations between humans. I had a lot of things happen to me when I was a child, and even now I am amazed that I am still alive, that I did not die. I don’t want children to have experiences like that, and if I had a child that was like me as an infant, I might just go crazy and die. I was sick and mentally not alright. I saw things that could not be seen by other people, and they didn’t try to understand what I was saying. To them, I was just a “weird child”, right? Of course the ones I wished would believe me were my parents. But my parents did not believe me. This might be why I started feeling like my very existence is a crime.

Question 2 -----

If we are lucky, this world might still exist. But if we go on like this, I think that it will break down. I feel that the people of this era are unconsciously being driven by an urge to ruin. I think that unless those people change, this world will collapse. Once humans get their hands on something they shouldn’t possess, wouldn’t they reset everything to zero and start again from there? Even if it is destroyed, I don’t think it will turn to nothingness. If that is mankind’s destiny that’s alright with me, and it’s not like I am thinking gloomily. It is clear to see that the earth cannot sustain us if we go on like this. If there was no Second World War, the current world population would exceed 10 billion. Even with our technology, we would definitely run of food sources. It is because of things like that, that we are able to live in these numbers here now. War is terribly tragic, but without it there is no doubt that it would lead to different tragedies. I think that humans are just one cell within this huge life-form called Earth. That’s why there is meaning in the sudden appearance of new viruses or strange climate changes. Nature’s providence. That’s why I think that no matter what happens, we have to accept it as it is.

Question 3 -----

I would probably make a movie in which the characters are not human. A movie without dialogue. Nobody can actually act so if there was dialogue, it wouldn’t be viable as a movie (laughs). Ever heard of this manga called ”GON”? It’s a manga about dinosaurs but there isn’t a single line of dialogue. The story progresses only through pictures, and when I first read it I was amazed that manga like this existed. I think it would be OK if there were movies like that, too. Everyone would be grotesque demons. And the title would be “MALICE MIZER and their delightful friends”, or “The Nice Middles* and their delightful friends”, something like that (laughs). There would be parodist parts as well as serious parts. You can laugh while watching it, but after it finishes there are those who would breathe a sigh, and those who cannot get up from their seat. I like those kinds of movies. Mikuni Rentaro (a famous Japanese actor) said that comedic performances are the most difficult ones to pull off, and I think so too. Crying and feeling sad are things anybody can do if they have a certain amount of life experience, but making an appeal to people by laughing is very hard. Making yourself laugh might be easy, but I think it is difficult to make others laugh. But, if we were going to make a movie, I would want it to be a serious story with parodist elements. Movies aren’t something I would just like to try my hand at: I definitely will. I don’t think that singing is everything there is to me, I want to try doing many different things. Rather than making a distinction between singing and acting, I think there are many times when singing takes you to another world, and the other way around as well. This is my own little theory, but I think that vocalists are supposed to be actors performing on a stage. Whether trying to express something ends in masturbation** or unfolds into a whole world of its own depends on that. That’s why I will also be an actor. And a lot of other things. I’m a greedy person.

*Translation note: in Japanese, “Nice Middles” are middle-aged men that are both cool and discreet.

**Translation note: Gackt uses the word masturbation but I think he means it as a single person’s self-centered act.

Question 4 -----

It’s true that there are many people out there who think of it as disgusting, but I do not. Male or female does not matter to me, everything depends on me being able to trust that person or not. If the person I fall in love with is a man, I think that there’s no problem with that. Between two people of the same sex there will be physical unevenness that makes some things challenging but if you clear those hurdles there is no issue at all. I am OK with everything. My feelings towards the men and women around me are the same as the ones I would have for a woman, it’s just that we don’t have physical relationships. Gender has no impact on me falling in love with someone. Of course, I do have my preferences. I don’t like hairy people, for example (laughs). If I was OK with hairy people, I think I would be dating anyone regardless of their gender. If there are those reading this who think “This guy is bi”, go ahead and let them is all I would say. Women that are thickly haired...I’m not a big fan of. More so than the hair issue, I like that skin texture that is unique to women. So I want everyone to take better care of their skin. There’s a lot of them that are really into tanning, but it’s bad for your skin, so I want them to be careful.

Question 5 -----

Compatibility, chemistry. No matter how good your technique is, it’s no good if there’s no chemistry. I think that sex is a means of relaying things that cannot be expressed in words. Your partner’s feelings will enter your body, and if you succeed in injecting your partner with yours, you will feel really good emotionally as well. “Skillful” and “good” are two different things. I don’t know a lot of men that I can call true friends, but I do know a lot of women like this. For a long time I thought about why that was, but suddenly I realized that it was because I can’t have physical relationships with my male friends. With women, it takes less time for a relationship to become physical than with men… rather, that’s only natural, so that part of my feelings that can’t be put into words is relayed to that person. I can’t have physical relationships with men so it takes a lot of time until we understand each other on an emotional level. That’s why it’s easier for me to come to a mutual understanding with women. So far, I have never lost contact with the girls I was dating because we no longer got along. There were times when that happened because we weren’t a good match, but people that understand you deeply are precious. Understanding each other on an emotional level is more important than sex to me.

Question 6 -----

Time, money. And having friends that think likewise. Those are the bare necessities, and once these conditions are fulfilled in a good balance, things will start from there. For example, when you want to do something, you will need time. Time that will allow you to do that thing when you think of it. And you will need money. Isn’t it sad wanting to do something yet not having the time for it? Money in itself is a silly thing, but being restrained by it is even sillier. So you need to have it. And then, you will need true friends that can share in it. “Want to go to xx?” when suggesting this, if there is someone there who can join you without being held back by time and money, it’s far better than doing it on your own. I think that happiness will start from the point those 3 come together. But at the moment I’m not there at all. No money, no time. My friends don’t have them either. Among my friends there are those that have time and money, but it’s no use if I don’t have them. It’s no good if it’s just me, and likewise if it’s just those around me. But you know, having to tell my friends that I have no time when they want to do something for me is really hard. Isn’t it sad to have to decline because you have no money? You can achieve happiness if that balance is in order. I think this new kind of happiness is just starting for me.

Question 7 -----

How will I die? In what way will I be able to pass on? Instead of receiving applause when appearing on stage somewhere, I want to leave the stage while being missed. Rather than appear on the stage bathed in the limelight, I want to take special care of the way the curtains close. I think that life is just an iteration of this. How much will I be missed when I die…But I’m not thinking negatively about it at all. I’m really positive. If there were requirements for being able to go in such a way, then it’s all just about the way you live, right. It’s not like I’m thinking about actual ways to die, but more about how I can live in such a way that makes the closing of the curtains fulfilling. I think about death a lot, but it’s totally different from the kind of death syndrome young people tend to get caught up in. I don’t think it’s possible to try and understand death if you first don’t understand life at the same level. If you are just focused on death, you will become a murky thing with a really narrow outlook on life. However, life and death are two sides of the same coin, so if you are not always looking at them equally, you will understand neither. And if you just pursue death you will just become another negative person (laughs). What is important is the way you live. That’s why my way of looking at death is very positive. I’m originally not an optimist, but you could call it optimism. Even if something really bad happens, people just looking at the process of it may wonder why it is so hard, but people that can see past that towards the results might not think of it as that hard. If you can envision a good result, even if the way there is hard, I think you may be able to find joy in that.

Question 8 -----

I can’t remember. I don’t really have any memories. When it comes to times when I was happy, I like to relax and think about nothing, so only the times when I was doing that come to mind. When I was little, on days when the sunlight was really strong I would throw myself down at the riverbed and just look at the water flowing all day, and that made me really happy. That’s the kind of person I am, so I was really unhappy about having to go to school on days when the weather was good. Rather than go to class there were many times when I would decide to go to the river, or to go the lakeside, and then read an English book all day. I liked English. I didn’t hate studying, I just hated the person that was teaching it. I went to the classes by teachers that I liked, and I liked studying as it gave me that feeling of something entering my body. When I was a child my uncle would take me to the military base on Okinawa, and after playing billiards we would climb a small hill and look out over the city. Even though they were the city lights of a very small city, it was beautiful and it felt good, and I think this is why I came to love looking at skylines at night. Also, my uncle’s house was right by the sea on Okinawa, so when we visited I would look at it all day. If you look at it for 8 hours, the ocean starts appearing like a living creature. Whenever I go somewhere I will just sit by myself and space out for many hours. I’m mostly on my own. Wouldn’t the person going with me be in agony? If I was doing nothing at all for 8 hours (laughs).

Question 9 -----

A certain individual I met when I was about 18~19 years old. Ever since I was a child I was very dangerous and negative, but I changed after meeting that person. If you tell normal people about things that bother you, they will throw in interjections like “yeah, you’re right” to show that they are paying attention to what you are saying, but in the end that’s just you comforting each other. When this person listened to my troubles, he laughed hard and said “How trifle”. And, “you’re thinking that because you are looking at it in a certain way. Look at it like this.” That’s what he would say to me. My way of thinking changed in a big way. That person was very positive, so he influenced me. Until then I was the kind of guy who is always fixed on death, but thanks to spending a lot of time with him, his way of thinking seeped into me. If all you think about is negative things, you won’t be able to find meaning in living nor dying. I slowly came to understand that being negative is not a good thing. Before I realized it, being with this person caused my way of thinking about everything to become very positive. It would not be an overstatement to say that I found out the meaning of living. He was about 10 years older than me, but to me he was so much larger than life that it was hard to see something like age. Being together with him was a lot of fun, everything he talked about felt new, everything he said influenced me, his every single action was huge to me. Before that I was unable to laugh, but he helped me to be able to do it. I really feel that the world would be a better place if there were more people like that.

Question 10 -----

If it was possible, I would want to meet all of you. Within the limited time I have I want to try and meet as many people as possible. After all there are 5 billion people on this planet, and simply speaking 2.5 billion of them are women. I wonder how many of them I will be able to meet. Saying that it’s good to meet as many people as possible is my own baseless conviction. Through those meetings I want to experience all kinds of people. All humans are different individuals, aren’t they. Even though there are so many of us, we are all different, and that’s amazing. Really, humans are so interesting. You wouldn’t want to end up hating humans, right. The chances of meeting someone are extremely slim. When speaking about probability, the chances of meeting just one person are astronomical, a miracle. I am gaining happiness from each and every one of those meetings, they make me happy and thankful. So I will go on caring deeply about those meetings, and meet many more. I guess you could say, I want to (make) love (to) all of you~♪ (laughs).

Mana

Question 1 -----

Actually, nowadays I'm wondering if my existence is a sin. Well, I used to be just a helpless bastard (laughs). I had no redeeming qualities, I didn't know what to aim for in life, and I was just lost. In those young days, I had nothing to live for at all. I had no future, but now that I know who I am, it’s like I'm afraid to live.

When did you find out who you are ?

Well, around my teenage years, at the turn of my twenties or so maybe.... One day, I was born on this earth as a human being, and I suddenly understood the reason for my existence. Since that day, I have been afraid of my own existence. Lately I have been thinking that maybe I’m not a human being at all. I have a human form, but am I really a human being? I am becoming unable to suppress those feelings, but I think that by suppressing my feelings, I am already committing a sin against myself. I can't say too much about it, but...maybe it's better not to find out who I really am. Maybe my teenage self who didn’t know anything was happier, I think.

Would you say you’re suffering(/are not happy) ?

From everyone's point of view, the activities of MALICE MIZER may seem glamorous and joyful, but behind the scenes, I am fighting against suffering, sadness, fear, loneliness, despair, and the chaos of the present, past, and future. From the moment I see myself, I never feel at ease. So maybe it would have been better if I had never awakened.

Well, let me ask you, what would you have preferred not to have woken up to?

It’s something I know, but I can't talk about. Because this is not something I should say. There are things that people don't need to know, things they are happier not knowing... (smiles)

Question 2 -----

Boy, I really don’t know, it’s whatever, do what you want.

So what happens after death is irrelevant is what you’re saying.

My physical body may perish, but I think my soul will still be alive as of 9:00 a.m. in the year 2305. In fact, the world of MALICE MIZER was formed from the accumulated memories of the past. It’s a really big part of it.

By “the past” you mean, before the current you ?

Yes. MALICE MIZER was formed from my memories when I was not in the form in which I exist now. So, in the year 2305 A.D., my body may perish, but my soul will continue to live on. I don't know if I will have memories from my current life on earth then, though. I think there probably will be.

What do you think the world will be in 2305 ?

There are some things it's better not to know. It's probably best not to say too much. (smiles)

Even if you have just a hint of an idea, please.

A hint? Well… Are humans good? What is it that we actually called the devil…? (Frowns in an evil laugh). There are really things that are better not to know. It's painful for me to know things like that, but there are some things you have to do no matter how painful they are, if you're a man (laughs). If you are a man, there are times when you have to fight even when you know you will lose (laughs).

Question 3 -----

Hmmm, It's hard to pick just one, because I think I could do so many things. But if I had to venture a guess、 I would like to make a cooking movie (laughs). I'd like to make a film about a cook of the flow.

So you’d be playing the role of the cook ?

Yeah. The theme is "Eternal Love," and the title is "L’Artistocrat of the Knife" (laughs) [In Japanese "La Houcho Kizoku", which Mana used years later for a cooking dinner event for Moi dix mois...!). Isn't it cool?

Haha! So you're wandering around with one knife, wrapped up in a strip of cloth. I'm sure that cook will fall in love, but with whom?

I don't have a specific someone, but I do have an ideal person in my head. A Japanese woman.

What type of role would you want to have the other members play ?

I'm not saying that he will appear in "L’Aristocrat of the Knife," but, well... I'd like to see Gackt play a character dressed as a woman. I think that if he plays the opposite of his current character, we might be able to see something new, and I don't want him to play a role that is too ordinary. For me, it's boring to play a role that is just like any other. I want him to show me the spirit of an actor and his professionalism. In that sense, I would like to see Közi play an elite businessman.

Is that because of the total opposite image it would give ?

I want Yu~ki to play a child or a boy. Right now I think he’s giving an image of him as an old man (laughs), so I'd like him to play the role of an energetic little boy. Kami should play the role of a hard worker with dark roots (laughs). I have roles for each of them, but it is difficult to make them into a single work.

Question 4 -----

I don’t think anything of it, really.

To each their own, do a you please, I guess ?

Well I also do whatever as I please so, haha.

Wait, what, is that… a coming out ?

No, no (laughs). I am always looking for stimulation. I think the preconceived notion that you have to be a man or a woman is boring.

So if you get caught up in preconceived notions, it limits your enjoyment?

I think we should enjoy, or rather, let our instincts guide us, and let human beings intertwine with each other (laughs). Whether it is between men or women. I think it's boring to live our lives with preconceived notions that we humans have decided upon. You are free to do whatever you want. Because, for example, I myself am a cross-dressing enthusiast (laughs).

Hahaha, a cross-dressing maniac (laughs)

In another way, some might say I’m just a pervert (laughs)

(Laughs) So when dressing as a woman/cross-dressing, you still feel like a man ?

Um, to put it clearly, I am not a cross-dresser. This is just my true self.

You can see this form in pictures and such ?

Yeah. That is my true self. My heart and soul are one and the same, always. It's not like I'm dressing up as a woman or playing a role, I'm just showing my true self. I'm beyond both men and women, in terms of feelings.

So you understand how a woman feels ?

Well, I suppose I understand well, yes.

But you like women, don’t you ?

As a formality, I thought it would be better to say so (smiles). That's something I can't say too much about considering the current situation in Japan.

You don’t mind how other people perceive you ?

I don't give a damn (laughs). I’ve always felt a strong sense of opposition. It was normal to be oppressed in my life**. I didn't want to always have to conform to my surroundings. I think homosexuals should be able to do whatever they want. I don't have any particular opinion, I think you should do what you want.

**Translation note: Here Mana uses the term "風当りkaze atari" which means against the wind. Technically this means someone that goes against the current, and is usually seen as bad or believes other people oppress them because they don't do what is expected of them/ they are an disliked rebel)

Question 5 -----

You shouldn't talk to young innocent children like this! Is this such a pornographic magazine? Isn't it a bad idea to use the word "sex" in the magazine? At the very least, use "C" or something like that (laughs).

“C” haha. Young people today don’t talk like that, haha.

No, don't say the word sex, I am still a pure fruit that has never been spoiled (laughs).

I think the fruit is fully ripe now though, haha.

No no, I don't know at all… I'm famous for being naïve, okay, stimulating sex is not something I want!

Is it too nasty ? You’re not looking for exciting sex?

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Okay so you don’t want me to talk about that, eh, I’ll shut my mouth (laughs). Changing the question for “innocent Mana”, what do you think is necessary conditions for having *lovely sex* ?

Well... the ideal situation is outside (laughs). I feel too safe in a closed room. I want to emphasize a sense of the world and atmosphere. For example, a beach at night would be nice, don't you think?

Seems like sand would hurt, so… No thanks. (laughs)

So, while trying various things…Wait, You’re going to publish this aren’t you?

Yeah (laughs)

Oh no… Well, uh, what I just said is something I read from a book, you know. (laughs)

Question 6 -----

Money (frank stare). There are a lot of things you can't do without money. In my life, there have been many things that I wanted to do but couldn't because of lack of money.

Money is an important thing. So you’ve struggled with money in the past.

I still struggle today.

If you had more money, what would you do ?

Yes, if I had the money, I would like to build a country. A country where only the chosen ones gather underground in their own personal kingdom. It would be a bewitching, aesthetic, crazy, erotic, and violent world. For that, I for sure would need money. Also, what I need is sincerity" (laughs).

Don’t you need someone to love/a lover?

Love and romance are still unknown to me. I am still too immature to fall in love (laughs).

Okay, I see, I see. (laughs)

Question 7 -----

Should I say this.... The Day of Judgment will come against the world. I am afraid to tell you what it will be like. Maybe I am the last savior. But I don't know if I am the savior for mankind.

Is your ultimate goal to fulfill your mission as a savior?

Yes. I can't say if it's against humanity or what. But it doesn't end when you die, does it? I am living in this borrowed body now, but what my spirit is doing is something I have been doing for a long time. Even if this body perishes, my goal will continue...

Question 8 -----

(Looking into the distance) I'll never forget. The day after a storm, in the fast-flowing river, I’m not sure why I had gone there. There I sank to the bottom of the river, and I felt death.

Did you fall in the river with your clothes on ?

No, a proper bathing suit (laughs). But I was lucky enough to make it to land. I was rescued by the kid who went swimming with me (laughs).

So, this is not an accident, you were just swimming !

I was sure I saw death then. Something I had never seen before when I was ready to die. From that moment on, I gradually began to find something that would help me live as a human being.

Did you open your eyes to a boy giving you mouth to mouth or something ?

No, no, I had not lost consciousness. But before that, when I was much younger, my parents took me to the river and I sank in the water, too. When I was in junior high school, I was on a boat in the ocean and the boat capsized, and I was in a situation where I was stuck on top of the boat and couldn't get out of the water. In other words, I have nearly died three times from water-related accidents. But in the end, I guess my time had not come yet. Since then, I have decided to stay away from places where there is water. But I am the person I am today because of those precious experiences, and the memories of those experiences and the feeling of death are vividly recalled and kept alive for me today. The photo of me in the booklet of the album "Merveilles"** is also related to that. Alright so I've been rambling for a long time now, but I guess it was not a pleasant memory after all (laughs).

**Mana refers to this picture :

Question 9 -----

The person I am most influenced by is the person I've been until I became the person I am today. I have been influenced by myself since my present self started to sprout and I can see it clearly.

Mh ?

It's difficult, eh. As I said in the previous section, my teenage self was so miserable. Then one day, when the door to my heart was opened by extreme emotions, I was born on this earth, and my true self emerged. When I realized who I really was, I was very happy because I had found my reason to live. In other words, I was reborn at the end of my teenage years, and my teenage self and my twenties self are obviously different. I am still being influenced by that “reborn me”. But being influenced by myself is painful because, although it is stimulating, it is a battle within my psyche. But that's fate, so it is what it is.

Mh, it’s quite hard to understand… Have you been influenced by the other members as well ?

Yes, I have. Certainly, I am influenced not only by myself, but by many other people. Even if it is not the members or other artists, you could say I am influenced by cooking and such. Buildings, objects of all kinds, landscapes in nature, and so on, have a huge influence on me. I am influenced by such completely different things than by so-called "artists". It is not because I admire a certain band or artist that I am here today, making music and expressing myself. There has never been a band like MALICE MIZER, right?

Question 10 -----

Yoroshiku (laughs)

That’s it ? (laughs)

Well you say that but it’s not like I know every woman in the world, you know.

Alright so then do you have any message for the women that you do know ?

I would like to meet and talk with you slowly about life. It is not often that you and I have a chance to talk directly with each other. Besides, I only speak Japanese, so…

Well then you can’t meet and talk, right. (laughs)

If you eat the “translation Konjac” (翻訳蒟蒻 honyaku konyaku, it’s a play on word for a jelly you eat and makes you talk other languages) it’ll be fine.

From Doraemon ?

That's right (laughs). I would love to have a serious discussion about love. With you, my darlings...

Közi

Question 1 -----

Hmmm, what should I talk about ?"

Are there too many ?

Yeah (laughs). Compared to some insidious and heinous crimes that happen in the world these days, the crimes I've committed are pretty minor, I guess. There are many, but here I would like to talk about a small thing that with the current legal situation in Japan you’d think “what ? you can get arrested for that ?”(laughs).

Wait what, you got arrested ?

I did (laughs). I call it the "Summer Pool Incident”. It was when I was about 17 years old and had just moved to Tokyo. I came to Tokyo with my senpai and we didn't have a house yet. We were living without a home in the city and going to public baths and such, but it was hot in the summer and we wanted to go swimming in a pool. It was simply too hot, and I thought that if it was the middle of the night, I could go swimming in the school pool... You wouldn't think I would get arrested for that, would you?

I’d be pissed off, yeah.

Right (laughs). With that kind of lighthearted attitude, I went to the school with my senpai and a shampoo set (laughs), and we climbed the fence that surrounded the school and entered the grounds. Apparently, a passerby saw us and called the police, and five or six police officers came to see what we were doing (laughs). I explained that I had no bad intentions, but I was told that there is a rule that with a 110 call, you must be taken to the police station and a report must be taken.

So they took you.

Yeah (laughs). Then, my senpai was over 20 years old (major), so they let him go right away, but I was still a minor, so they wouldn't let me go without a guardian coming to pick me up. But it’s not like they’d show up anyways, eh..

You had moved to Tokyo as a runaway, kind of, right ?

Yes, yes, yes. (Közi dropped out of highschool) So, at that time, I was told to stay there. I stayed there for a day in what is called solitary confinement (laughs). That was a valuable experience.

And they sermoned you ?

I got lectured, yeah. This experience got me thinking like, damn, Tokyo is a scary place. It was right after I came to Tokyo, too. I thought, "Why am I treated like a criminal for something like this?

Solitary Confinement, too…

Really, there's nothing to do there. You take a shit or eat your food, that's it.

Well at least you got a meal, right.

Yeah, I guess, but the menu is insane. You know, there were three meals but breakfast was rice in a bento box, two pieces of takuan (pickled radish) and umeboshi (pickled plum) on top, with miso soup. Lunch was two slices of unbaked bread with margarine, and I don't know why, but a glass of hot water. Dinner was one piece of salmon with some rice and miso soup. At that time I was like, I’m gonna go crazy now, there was also nothing to do either. It was only one day, but yeah.

You surely had a lot of mixed feelings about your experience ?

Yeah, I did. The walls of solitary confinement cells are blank white walls, but they have a lot of history on them. There were various inscriptions on the walls. Stuff like you see on public restroom walls and such. Of course, you can't bring anything to write on in there, but they must have dug them out with their fingernails or something. You know... I'd look for those things one by one and read them. I thought about leaving a message, too, but in the end I didn't.

Really a special experience, eh.

Question 2 -----

People’ll eat mammoth meat, I bet.

Suddenly we're back to ancient times?

You know what they say. History repeats itself.

Does that mean the Ice Age will come in the meantime?

yeah.

And the doom of the human race is about to happen?

Yeah, soon enough, finally (grin).

So, you’re saying humanity will perish, but within 300 years, primitive people who eat mammoth meat will reappear.

Well, yeah, I think that’s the scenario. Something like that. Don’t you want to eat mammoth meat ?

The meat might be tough, so I don’t know about that.

The mammoth meat in the manga "Hajimete ningen Gatles" (First Human Gatorus in English) doesn't look good, in fact, I wouldn't want to eat it, but the meat in the cartoon looks good. So, to sum up, the world today is a material world, right? But I think it will become less so. The year 2303 A.D. will be the world of mammoths, the so-called "mammoth-new-type" era (laughs). (I think Közi is making a Gundam joke here with the “new type” word and mammoth but I can’t confirm, lol…)

Question 3 -----

I've been thinking about it a lot. The title is “Howl at the Full Moon”! At first glance, it looks like a detective story, but it is not. It's a story about a national organization that specializes in solving cases of supernatural phenomena, bizarre phenomena, and abnormal crimes that cannot be solved by science or common sense. It is a story about a national organization behind the scenes. The name of the organization is "FBY". The acronym stands for "Fushigi da ne, Bibitte kitara, Yasugibushi" (laughs) (Mysterious isn’t it, if you get freaked out, it’s (a certain folk song and dance from Shimane…. ? lol not sure I get this one, sorry). It's like X-files, if you will. I'm even making a movie called "Catch Coffee”. The FBY investigates and deals with bizarre phenomena and abnormal crimes, etc. Paranormal phenomena that happen in the world. Mysterious, Paradox, incredible, right ? Isn't it amazing? They investigate and manipulate.

. Mh?

So, FBY is an organization that investigates and unravels things that normally cannot be unraveled, but in fact, they may be manipulating the case behind the scenes. Let me introduce the members of FBY... Gackt is someone called "Kimchi". Gackt has a nickname for his role, like "Howl at the Sun!” Mr. Kimchi is a guy who wears a suit with a neat slicked back hairstyle and gentlemanly attire, but he loves kimchi to a point that he always has a kimchi in his inside pocket, kind of deal.

That would stink, lol.

Mana's role is also known as a "madam". She wears knitted tights and has a cool face that never breaks a sweat no matter what kind of situation she is in. That's how Mana is, too (laughs). As for myself, it’d be "sukekiyo” (traditionally dressed man with a white full face rubber mask) cause I always have a painted white face (laughs). I paint my own face. That's how I got my nickname. Yu~ki is also known as "Hiku-san”. He has been through a lot, and his body looks like it's in bad shape on the surface, because it's very twitchy (laughs). That's why I call him Hiku-san (laughs). He’s not an alcoholic, but when he gets violent, he finds out what is wrong with the world (laugh), and he may be a key figure in many areas. Kami's nickname is "Ucchari," simply because he loves sumo and uses his bicycle everywhere (in some rural or regional areas, a bike is called a “charinko” or for short “chari” the verb for "losing" starts with U, too). He is fast if he can pedal a bike! That's why he's called "Ucchari" (laughs).

What about the boss ?

He is a mysterious person who never shows up but always sends orders to FBY for cases.

And what’s the story ?

I think it is a story about solving mysterious things that have been repeated in the world for a long time without knowing whether they have been solved or not. This is a story about solving such stories. Of course, it takes place all over the world.

So what are each of the 3 members’ investigative methods ?

Well, I can’t tell you this here, can I… (laughs)

Question 4 -----

Well, if you love someone, isn’t that okay? Because, after all, what do you think is “love”? For example, there is love for animals/pets, if it is not between humans. If it were a man and a male pet, it would be a homosexual thing, wouldn't it?" (Laughs.)

But wait, it’s not called homosexual if it's not between humans? (Laughs)

Why not ? Aren’t we all (mankind) brothers and sisters ?

That would just be “human kind”, haha.

I mean, we are all connected in some way (laughs). Well, to get back to the point, isn’t it okay for humans to like each other, or for a man to like a man? As for me though, it’s not the case, I love women (laughs).

Question 5 -----

There are a lot of things. For starters, we need paper cups and strings。

That's a DIY play cord phone (laughter).

I guess it’s similar (Laughs) Also, a ring of wisdom, a megaphone, and a korokoro (a carpet dusting tool). I also have furikake "Aji-Douraku" (flavor sprinkles, furikake).

I don’t think I get it. Tell me how those are exciting, one by one.

I can’t really tell you that.

Have you used those ?

Yeah (laughs)

For example, a megaphone to amplify the voice at the time of climax?

Nah, you can use a megaphone in many ways, not just as a regular megaphone. You can read this and think [hmm, yeah, This..!] I, please do your own research and find out how to use it. It's more fun that way, isn't it?

Do you use it ?

Nah, now I don’t use objects/things, that’s stuff from the past I’m talking about.

Alright so, why not talk about now.

Now? (Laughs) Well, situations naturally come into the equation, don't they? And the mentality comes into play, too... I could go on and on. Let's put aside my experiences, for example, doing ABC outside, or with/in XYZ. That's something you hear a lot about. (I’m not sure if he said something and they censored it here or if he just said “ABC” type of example… lol)

Are those stimulating ?

I mean, anything you do for the first time is exciting for you, right? In a sense, meeting someone for the first time and becoming friends is exciting, too!

Does that mean that when it comes to sex, with any person, the first time you have sex with that person is exciting?

Of course you do; you wouldn't do it otherwise.

So, in your opinion, are you always looking for stimulation in sex?

I like women, and women are also looking for stimulation, but that's secondary. I'm a lightweight, basically. I'm a protein.

(snickering)

Every year, I get more and more bored with that kind of thing (laughs). When I was younger, there was a time when I was very interested in the opposite sex, but now I don't seek stimulation from sex. Of course, there is also some stimulation I look for in sex, but I like to be alone. And it's interesting to think about things, and that kind of journey is stimulating in many ways, so I don't put that much emphasis on sex.

Like, 10 percent ?

Well, maybe just a tad more (haha).

Question 6 -----

Compassion.

That’s deep.

Let’s go to the next !

So, that’s it ?

Alright, let’s go !! To The next !!!

Question 7 -----

I'd like to run a small flower shop (loud laughter), with a space of about 2 mats (space counted in tatami mats, that would be like… 8 sq. meters lol). I mean, it doesn't seem to exist, though.

Are you the type of person who doesn't set goals?

Well, ‘cause it's not a goal. It might be called a goal, but in my case, it's more a plan. And my plans are undecided (laughs). At the moment, I don't have any goals. Maybe tomorrow, but that's the way it is. Even if I don't think I have any plans, something may happen in the next two hours or so after I get home, and they may come up, you never know.

Don’t you have any goals for Malice Mizer activities ?

That’s because it's mission accomplished. I know I keep saying this, but I can't say it out loud (starts whispering), we're actually not a “band”. It's an organization, a union, (laughs). We had a meeting at Shinjuku Hour Station before. “Human Science High Society Syndrome - What is Human” is a section of the organization as well, that we are directing. We are driven by that organization. Malice Mizer’s only activity is to carry out its mission. Everything is according to the scenario.

 Question 8 -----

I don't really remember... Memories are something you feel when you take a break in the road of life and look back, right? I'm not the type of person who looks back, and I don't want to take a break yet.

Alright, then I’m daring you to look back now.

Well...the only thing I remember is that I took a shit in the sandbox when I was in nursery school (laughs). There was a nap time, and my friend and I were like, "What the hell are we going to do?” (he didn’t want to take a nap) so we went and played in the sandbox. I felt a hot sensation in my ass (laughs). But my friends were with me, so I kept quiet, and the poop stayed in my pants until we got home, I think (laughs).

Usually, the nursery teacher would have you change your clothes, right?

I don't remember exactly what happened before and after. All I remember is that I couldn't take care of myself because of the poop in my pants (laughs), and I remember playing with it in my ass , and that I went home without taking it off.

So that’s….. a fun memory ?

Fun, well… (laughs). That’s all I could remember (laughs)

Question 9 -----

I am influenced in some way by everyone I meet. After all, a human being cannot live alone.

So I guess you’re also influenced by the other members ?

Yeah, of course. It's fun to work together. We have completely different ideas, so we can't always come up with the same ideas immediately. We come up with our own concepts for everything we do, and it takes us a lot of time each time. We clash with each other, but that is interesting in its own way. I think we are influencing each other in a good way… I’ll leave it at that (laughs)

Question 10 -----

All over the world, right? It's not about words. Basically, I'm not very good at expressing myself on a daily basis, so it's all about body language. What I want to say is expressed as the world of MALICE MIZER, and I don't mean to push it as a message, but it includes what I want to say. So, if you watch MALICE MIZER, you can feel what I am trying to say.

I was a little surprised at the decent answer.

Mh ? Are you unsatisfied ? (glares)

No, no, it was lovely (sweats)

Yu~ki

Question 1 -----

It's nothing with a statute of limitations, it's still ongoing, but, well… I guess I've made a lot of women fall in love with me. It's not my fault or nothing, but still. I guess that's one crime.

Aah…..

Don’t let that one slide with just “aaahh” (laughs)

It’s like if in real life you said “ah, I’m just getting so many phone calls, it’s getting annoying..” (laughs)

Hehehe… Well… somehow, I really only get calls from my manager, you know (laugh), like, even if I don't charge my phone for a week or so, the battery doesn't run out (laughing)

That’s terrible (laughs). Isn't it because you won't give your phone number to anyone?

Yeah, I really don’t. But yeah, I did commit a lot of crimes. I got in trouble with my parents when I was a kid, nothing like being a shoplifter or a violent person though.

So even if you did commit crimes, you don’t remember.

I digress, but I do have a bad memory. My friends tell me things like, "Oh, yes, that thing happened to you, too.” (Laughs.) But I am glad that I had that period of reckless behavior. Good things and bad things, not to mention youthful indiscretions, were made possible because I was a young guy. But now I think that I shouldn't have bothered my parents. It’s stuff I knew I shouldn't have done, but I did because I was conscious of my friends' opinion of me.

Alright, that sounds like an excuse to me, but…. (laughs)

Question 2

I feel like there will be no earth anymore. I don't think there will be humans left either. I think there are things that are moving, like life in today's terms, but I don't think they are moving because they have a heart, and I don't think they have a male or female gender either.

So in a way it’s devolved ?

Maybe so. In that sense, I think there might be lower creatures or objects that can adapt to the environment of the time. I am sure that there’ll be a creature or an object that can read the thoughts of others too.

Would such a major change happen in the span of 300 years ?

Yes, I think so. Something revolutionary is going to happen, and then it will accelerate very quickly. It would clearly be different from the speed at which we have evolved in the past 300 years, and I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but something unexpected and revolutionary is going to happen. Not that it matters to me or anything but… (laughs)

Question 3 -----

It takes place in a rural town in France. The story is that me and Közi are bad friends. We are always driving around and doing bad things, saying things like “I don’t give a damn about women!!” and stuff. So Mana-chan, who plays the role of a woman, is the girlfriend of a rich man, Gackt, and she's getting tangled up with Kami and a young man in town, played by a young guy from our office. And this dude’s always like, “Hey, hey, girl…” kinda. Közi and I see this, and we’re like, "That's just super rude, you crossed a line!" so we walk over and without saying anything we start throwing punches at Kami and the other guy… Sorry, Kami (laughs). “What an asshole!” After Kami and the others left, I just reach my hand to Mana-chan and say, "Hey, Be careful, girl...." and stuff… Wow that story really sucks (laughter).

Nah, it’s alright, keep going, keep going (laughs)

Mana, who was saved by us, had not been able to forget me since that day, and we meet again at a dance party in town where Mana found me performing. Tired of her mundane life with her rich fiancé Gackt, she was attracted to my wild sparkle, my muddiness, my sweaty smell... I was so drunk that she invited me out for a drive. Her heart was in turmoil. Then we try to leave town together to get away from Gackt, but Gackt is very rich and powerful, so he comes and crosses us with his men. So, on our way to freedom, I get shot...So she says, "Why did you have to go this way…! (dramatic)" as she holds me in her arms. It's super sad. I play the leading role in this movie, and I am also the director and musician, too.

And what’s the title ?

It’s a French Movie so…. Kinshi no Kaen (ENG: Forbidden Garden - FR: Jardin Interdit)

It’s more like an erotic film than a French film… (laughs)

I guess that’s also fine (laughs)

The title kinda suggests that sex scenes are…

Present, yes, of course (laughs)

Question 4 -----

First of all, if you’re asking me if it's good or bad, I don't think it's bad. I have heard that there are people who were born with separate bodies, like actually have a male body and a female mind. But I think it is fine if the feelings of both are compatible with each other. There are countries where same-sex couples are allowed to marry, even though here it is not allowed under Japanese law, aren't there?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure there are.

Yeah, that’s it, so I think it’s alright.

So when it comes to love, feelings are the most important, whether between men and women, or same-sex couples.

That’s what I think yeah. Homosexuality may not be a matter of physical relations. In fact, I think there is a stronger bond between them that transcends their bodies. I feel that these people value the connection of the heart more. There are many forms of love, and I don't deny that.

Question 5 -----

You're reaching for it, eh. (laughter). There could be many, but it could also be stuff (I think he meant physical objects ?)...Mh, suddenly starting saying that is not a good idea (laughs). It's just a matter of feelings. I guess it depends on the individual, but I think the point is what personally stimulates you.

Okay, so what about you then ?

Oh, well, it's not that I'm trying to escape (this question) from it either but..(laughs), on the other hand, I'm looking for stimulation these days.

Eh ?! You mean regular sex doesn’t cut it ?

Well talking only about sex we can ask what is stimulating about it (laugh). Emotionally, if you’re being on edge, nervous or excited, that’s also a type of stimulus, right. So, imagining things like “Maybe, if I could hug this person…” is also stimulating ? (laughs)

Like… Fantasies ?

No, no, not fantasies (laughs). Let's talk at length, here (laughs). This may not be in line with your question, but it's true that I've been uninspired/unstimulated lately. I’m always looking for good sex. So I’m thinking about it, but I am not getting what I am looking for. I don't have a woman who can make me fall in love with her, or I can already see how it will turn out, or I've already come to my own conclusions about her... So if that’s going to be the case, I think it would be better if I didn't seek it out anymore. It's not that it's a bother, but there's a part of me that refuses to do it.

That doesn’t mean you’re refusing to have sex, though, right ?

That won’t ever happen I think (laughs)

If we are talking about stimulating sex, the most important question is whether the partner's existence itself is stimulating or not.

Exactly. So all you need for exciting sex is an exciting woman.

So, What kind of woman would that be ?

So, there are people who you can tell even before you touch each other. On the other hand, a stimulating woman is someone who enjoys playing games that keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, the atmosphere of the person, the way they talk, each one of those things is stimulating.

In other words, if love is exciting from the first stage, then it should be even more exciting further down the line.

Yes. With that kind of partner, I would ask for more and more, and when asked, I would not refuse either.... The depths are deep, and I am sure there is a rich, forbidden world waiting for me when I get there (laughs). It's not of this world anymore kind of amazing. Oh... I'm already getting nervous just talking about it (laughs).

Question 6 -----

I'm not really looking for a fulfilling life, if you can't tell. But if I was looking for it, it'd be money, wouldn’t it? That's a real problem, but that’s what I think. I don't care about money though. I'm of the mindset that all I care about is the present, so I'll spend what I have as soon as I have it. That's my attitude (laughs)... But, in the end, what I need is love, isn't it? Even if you are poor, if you have a family, children, and things you love, I think you can think that your life is fulfilling even if it looking back, your life was ordinary.

You’re gonna make my cry, talking like that… (tears)

I have a weakness for this kind of story (laughs). It's not all fun and games when you're living day to day.

Feeling sorry for the hardships you put your loved ones through, and such.

That's natural, isn't it? Everyone should put in the hard work so that I can lead a fulfilling life (laughs). I mean, all I need to do to live a fulfilling life is for everyone to work hard for me hahaha! (laughter)

You Scoundrel ! (laugh)

 Question 7 -----

It's how close I can get to the person I want to be, I think. I don't want to live an ordinary life, and I don't want to do the same things as other people, so I live my life looking for how I can live differently from other people, looking for what only I can do, and how I can differentiate myself from other people. If I were to limit it to music, I would like to be able to leave my music and my name behind in a way that says, "Because of this person, this kind of music was born," or "Because of this person, I started music.” It may be a tiny thing, but in fact, I think I have left enough of my existence as MALICE MIZER in the indies. I am sure that I will be able to leave my name and music in the future, and that is my ultimate goal as a human being.

Question 8 -----

I have a childhood friend that I have been with since kindergarten, and we are still together today. He and I had a family relationship, or rather, I was taken care of by his family there. I had dinner at their house, and on holidays they took us far away from home. They loved new stuff, and they had a video camera that captured all of their trips to the beach and other places. I'm sure he still has some of those, so it would be interesting to see it now.

Wow, I wish I had some of those too.

I was in a band with this guy in my hometown. When we had just started the band and hadn't played at live houses yet, I longed for the space of a live house, so we remodeled a room in his house, brought in drums, closed the shutters even though it was hot as shit and pitch dark (laugh), and imagined what a live house would be like, lighting the place up with lights (laugh). Then a neighbor called the police (laughs). The police came and asked me if I was performing. So we said, no no… (laughs). That happened 2-3 times. Then we tried to lower the volume a little you know (laughs). We played that kind of live house game, and it was a lot of fun. After school, we would go to his house and make as much noise as we wanted, and when we got tired, we would play mah-jong and eat snacks (laughs). What was popular at that time…? We played a game called "Donjara," which was based on Doraemon, and board games like "Dracula Game" and "The Game of Life”.

Question 9 -----

First of all, parents of course. Parental education has the greatest influence of all. Parents are the ones who teach you what is right and wrong in the beginning. Well, I'm often told by people that I don't have common sense, though.

Is that also… Your parents’ influence ? (laughs)

That’s just sad for my parents if I say that (laughs). But I don't necessarily want to be a sensible adult either. If it doesn’t bother other people, I want to be a live mess regardless of whether people think I have no common sense or not. Even if I'm embarrassed, even if people say I have no common sense, I want to do whatever I think is cool for the rest of my life. Like, I'm getting old and I shouldn't wear my hair orange, and such. (laugh). The older people around me might think I'm just playing around without working, but I just want to do whatever I want. I think the basic ideologies that I have were given to me by my parents. Lately, there are many times when I suddenly think that my father and I are similar in some way, and I think that he was doing something like this, too. I like to make things, and I am good with my hands, which I think I inherited from my parents. That kind of dexterity is something I was born with, so I am grateful for it.

What about influence from members ?

They influence me a lot of course. There will always be a sense of rivalry I think. So, although I don't like to admit it, I am influenced by them in some way. I don't know what the other members think, but I hope I can influence them as much as possible and of course receive influence from them as well. In terms of visuals, I think “I'm going to look like this, so let’s try to have him be like this…” Secretly, I feel like I always want to surprise the members first, before I even want to surprise or impress the people who support us. That's what makes Malice Mizer so interesting.

Question 10 -----

Hm. Well… I won't say anything (laughs), but… You must be crazy about me and follow me. ...I got all hesitant just now (laughs). I'm not used to saying stuff like that, so I’m blushing. (laughter). Did you notice the tone of my voice got a little lower when I said “just follow me without saying anything”? (Laughter)

Yeah, sounded like Gackt (laughs)

Right? (laughs). Hm… that's embarrassing... (wipes sweat off his face). I think it will be interesting if you do follow me. I don't think you'll get bored. If you want to be bullied, if you want to live a thrilling life, come follow me, until you get so sick of me to the point of diabetes ! (laughs) A’ight… that’s it ! (looking satisfied)

Kami

Question 1 -----

It's the fact that I was born into this world (laughs). Already. My very existence is a crime. I believe that no human being is ever 100% clean, and that every human being has a part that is mentally dirty and evil. I think I have that too. Therefore, it is a crime to exist.

It's the theory of Depravity (humans are inherently evil, it’s their nature), that when you're born, you're a dark being, and you live to atone for your sins.

Yeah.

Don't you believe in the opposite of that, the inherent pure nature of humans? What do you think about the idea that babies are pure/innocent ?

That's not true. You know, people often say "congratulations" when a child is born, but that is not the right word to use, I don’t think. A monk or someone told me that when a child is born, you don't know what his or her future holds, or if the child will have a great destiny waiting for him or her in the future.

Then what would be a good thing to say when a baby is born ?

”My condolences” (laughs)

Surely you can’t say that.

I don’t know what kind of life the child will lead but maybe we should just say “good luck/do your best”. We don’t know what the life of this child will be like.

If it is a crime for Kami to exist, is what MALICE MIZER doing with you a crime?

MALICE MIZER expresses the question "What is a human being?” and performs it in various ways. So, maybe it is a crime on a spiritual level. The lyrics also show the dirty side of human beings. In "Bois de merveilles," the lyrics say "I'll keep singing until my sins are forgiven…” So then, he should keep singing until he is forgiven (laughs).

Question 2 -----

Well, I'm no clairvoyant, so I don't know. First, I'm just looking forward to next year. Aren't you interested in what happens at the end of the century?

I don't think anything will happen, really. What do you think will happen at the end of the century anyway?

I can't say (laughs). I think things will turn out the way they are supposed to. Even if the earth might not get destroyed at the end of the century, I imagine that the human race will be destroyed, and after that, maybe new non-human things will come into existence.

Well then, how will 2305 be ?

I am sure that by that time, there will be creatures that can communicate telepathically, something that is unthinkable today. Since communication can be done telepathically, their eyes, ears, nose, and hair will have degenerated, and they will be all smooth and their body color will be yellow (laughs). It has only two long fingers and 16 squid-like legs, and it walks around in circles like a floor sweeper (laughs).

Isn’t that way too many legs, though ? (laughs)

That's absolutely the kind of life that will be born, I think. So, in the year 2305, there will be life on this planet, but the earth may no longer be “earth”. But there will be no barriers of countries, borders, or languages, and the world will be one. I think there will be life forms there, without the dirty parts like humans have today.

Question 3 -----

The title is “The Life of Casanova”

…Who is Casanova ?

He is said to be an Italian man who existed about 200 years ago, who was a real womanizer and player, wrote books, and did many other things. He always wore a mask, and there is a festival in Venice in February where people wear masks and parade, and it is the festival of Casanova. During the festival, all the men put on masks as if they were Casanova, and they walk with women in tow. I used to be fascinated by Casanova (laughs).

And so you wanted to make a movie about his life.

Yeah. For the roles, Gackt is Casanova, of course. Mana is one of the women around him, and Közi is a bossa nova, I guess ? (laughs), and Yu~ki is a dog (laughs). Gackt wears a costume not too different from the one in "Gekka no Yasoukyoku” and a mask, goes out in disguise, seduces women, and writes books. And Mana is seduced by Gackt (laughs). Mana's costume is just as good as the blue dress in "Gekka no Yasoukyoku" too. Közi plays the bossa nova...but you must be thinking, “bossa nova is music!” right ? (laughs)

You’re telling me the casting yourself, so you deal with that now. (Laughs)

So, Bossa Nova is the name of a jester, a red clown like Kozi in "Gekka~” He clowns around on the street, makes money, and uses the money to drink and seduce women. Yu~ki was originally Casanova's dog, but now he has run away and is wandering around (laughs). He is a black and white dog with a short tail like the one in 101 Dalmatians (laughs). The setting is Italy, so of course I will make a film in which All Italian Casanova tells the story of his interactions with various women, what he felt, and also about what he left behind in his diary. I'm going to show you all the different scenes, all of them.

Is there any women involved as well ?

Basically, I want to make a beautiful film, so I want to make the interaction between a man and a woman just beautiful.

I suppose there will be many other women in the show besides Mana’s role, what other actresses would you use?

That's right. I, as the director, will be present at the audition to select the actresses. I’ll choose the actresses by screening them with body checks (laughs).

No screening in swimsuits… Just, direct… (laughs)

Question 4 -----

For now, only women are a no to me. But homosexuality, in a sense, may be an evolved form of human nature. Men instinctively want women, so maybe men wanting men are a more evolved form of humans.

Oh, is that how it is.

Males seeking females (here Kami is using the terms for male/female animals/mammals) is something you see in the world of animals in ranks lower than humans as well. So, maybe homosexuals are evolved people. Eventually, males will be able to have children with other males, and the yellow creature I mentioned earlier will be born (laughs). It will be possible for both men and women to give birth to a yellow life form. Let's call this yellow creature "Porquii," if you will (laughs). [[Porquii is a little creature looking like the Kewpie baby if I am not mistaken lol]]

Porquii…(laughs)

But the fact is, it seems that the feeling of homosexuality is more or less present in every human being.((he said “the feeling of a man loving a man", didn’t mention women though, but I assume that’s kind of what he means… ?)

I've heard that when boys are young, there is a time when they are interested in makeup and skirts, and that this is a common part of the growing up process.

Oh... I also had the experience in kindergarten of wearing a red tartan check skirt, wearing my mom's lipstick, and trying to shave my eyebrows and ending up shaving them all off (lol). So, as I evolve, I might end up liking men, too. You never know when you're going to wake up.

Question 5 -----

First of all, circumstances are very important, aren't they? If there is no affection in the situation, it may not be stimulating.

On the other hand, doing things with people you don't like could be an unpleasant stimulus.

A-ha ha! Disgusting stimulus (laughs). Well, if you do it with someone who is not human, it might be a good stimulus. In that sense, it might be stimulating to do it with other men (laughs). Well, I don't know if I would call what men do to each other sex (laughs).

So, if we limit it to male-female intercourse, what is stimulating sex for you, Kami?

Is that something I can talk about ?

Well, yeah.

In my case, there is more than one partner. Every woman I love, I make them all play different female roles, and I have them all naked. So like, 50 of them.

It will suck your entire spirit and soul out of you (laughs).

Nah, it’d be okay (laughs). 50 people are invited to intertwine with each other as they please. The place is a large room in a big European castle. There’s only one big bed, and it’s so dark that you can only see a glimpse of their faces from the candles, and I'd have sex with 50 women at once, as if I were Casanova... (bursts out laughing)

Wow, that’s… Great (impressed)

Well, even if you are impressed, it doesn't mean that it’s the kind of thing that I am actually doing or nothing (laughs). Not that that's what I'm wishing for, either…

Question 6 -----

I need time to think about myself, friends that I can talk to about anything, and money. Of those three, what I want most right now is time to do nothing.

And if you’d have that time, what would you do ?

I’d go to a deserted island and just sit in a daze, or I could dig a hole and cower in it (laughs). Or I could put on your costume wings and fly into the sky like waah~~ (laughs).

Do you want to get out of your current cluttered way of life?

Yeah. If we had that kind of time, I think we could create a much, much better piece of work.

Question 7 -----

Fulfill my destiny.

And what would that be ?

I can't tell people that kind of thing. What I am doing now may be my destiny, and I don't know what will happen next, but I think that is also my destiny. Of course, you can never predict the future. But I believe that the story of my life has been perfectly planned from the moment I was born into this world. But...I don't know...maybe joining MALICE MIZER was a big thing for me. I think that expressing oneself and having various thoughts come out naturally is also life. But isn’t the ultimate goal of human beings to die ? And about what you think about just before you die? It would be nice to die thinking, "I have fulfilled my destiny” I think.

Question 8 -----

I battled with a giant asian hornet (murder hornet)

That’s the super dangerous one, though, right ?

They say that if you get stung by that hornet, you die. But I bravely stood up to them. There was a hornets’ nest in my yard, so I said, "Don't build a nest in a place like this!" And I attacked the wasp nest by stabbing it with a stick (laughs).

You weren’t raided by a bunch of hornets, then ?

Oh, there were hornets, lots of them(laughs). But I killed them by hitting them down with my stick, so I was fine.

Are you for real ??!

I’m serious! I was not stung at all, strangely enough, so I guess attacking a hornet's nest was more fun than scary. When I was little, it was fun to kill insects for me. Catching snakes, skinning them and swinging them around, sticking firecrackers into frogs' mouths and making them explode, scooping tadpoles with my hands and slamming them into the road... I'm sure the animal rights groups would be furious with me…

Kids really are cruel, eh.

I told you earlier. I'm a sinful man. Now, those brutal feelings are reflected on stage. While playing something that is not human, or may be an insect.

So when thinking of happy memories, you think of playing in nature ?

I wasn't ever at home. I played outside all the time. I played outside even after dark. I didn't sleep, I just played and then went to school, I feel like.

What did you do outside at night ?

I’d wander through the mountains chasing owls, or catch a crow sleeping in a tree and kill it. You can't catch owls because they are fast runners, nocturnal and sensitive. But crows sleep at night, so they are easy to catch.

You sure know a lot about animal behavior.

I caught and raised swallow chicks, kept a green chick sold at a street stall, and gradually its feathers stopped being green and became white (laugh), and it even grew a crest and became a chicken (laugh). I have loved animals since I was a child, and I kept all kinds of animals.

Alright then, from now on I’ll call you “the Mutsugoro of the Music world” (Mutsugoro was a famous Japanese zoologist)

Well then I have to say “aight’ aight’ aight’~!” I guess. (Mutsugoro is someone similarly well known on TV for animal contents like Steve Irwin would be in the West, and used to say “yosh~yosh~yosh kawaii desu ne !” a lot it seems.)

Question 9 -----

I’m not influenced by anyone, I’m just who I am.

But have you ever been naturally influenced by someone you fell in love with, male or female?

I see. That is generally what could be called influence, but I don't think of it as influence. I don't think they influence me. It just passes through my filter a little bit, but in the end, I don't think there is much left in me. I think I might be surprisingly simple in that respect.

You don’t care about other people ?

No, I care a lot actually. It’s not that they influence me, but I'm just looking at others to feel, and feeling is one of the things that influences me?

In that case, wouldn’t “being moved by feeling” be some type of influence, in a way ?

Oh. Well then I’m influenced by everything. Every single person I've met. And I don't know if that's an influence, but I think I inherited kindness as a human being from my family.

Is that what your parents taught you, “be kind to others” ?

It's not something I was really taught, but when you are young, you imitate your parents and siblings. In my case, my family and relatives were kind and gentle, and I grew up seeing that, so I guess I naturally became a pure and gentle person. I don't know how to say it myself, but I think I have a twisted way of thinking about things, but I don't think I am twisted in a fundamental way.

I see. Have you been influenced by the other members ?

I have a lot of respect for the other members.

You didn’t answer my question (laughs)

I said I respect them ! The end !

Question 10 -----

Find yourself quickly and live beautifully and radiantly. That's what I’d like to say. Because I believe that when you know yourself, you can see the best version of yourself the most.
